Saginaw Dems Adopt Resolutions

The Saginaw County Democratic Party held their convention on Saturday, February 10 at the UAW 699. According to the Saginaw Area Democratic Club's Web site, "[t]he first SCDP resolution recommends primary elections for the offices of State Attorney General and Michigan Secretary of State, positions now nominated at convention. The second seeks to limit campaign spending by supporting public financing of local and state elections." The resolutions will now be sent to the Michigan Democratic Party Convention Resolutions Committee. The MDP State Convention will be held on Saturday, February 24 at Cobo Hall in Detroit.

WHEREAS, the Democratic Party stands for transparency and openness to the Party's membership,

WHEREAS, there is a need for the public to become informed about our candidates,

WHEREAS, Democratic candidates need to build successful campaigns through adversity during the primary battle for the Party's nomination that prepares them for the General Election,

THEREFORE be it resolved, that the Saginaw County Democratic Parts adopt this resolution in support of primaries for the offices of Secretary of State and Attorney General.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this resolution be forwarded to the State Democratic Party with a recommendation for its acceptance and placement in the appropriate document or with appropriate committee for action and that we urge the State Democratic Party to join our county in support of this resolution.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this resolution be forwarded to all Democratic Party members holding office in the state legislature and Governor Granholm with a recommendation for its immediate consideration for legislation before the upcoming 2008 elections.

THEREFORE be it resolved, that the Saginaw County Democratic Party adopt this resolution in support of public financing of all state and local elections in the State of Michigan.
